Rest In Peace James Horner

Very sad to hear about the passing of composer James Horner. 

I watched a great piece of footage in my Film Music course last year of Horner conducting the orchestra for Something Wicked This Way Comes. I got chills watching the piece come to life (so wishing I could find that footage now!) - he really knew what Halloween sounded like. 

Here is another piece I have always loved, not only because I admire Horner's work on Jumanji (one of my favorite movies), but because this one makes me remember Robin Williams and his great performance in the film. Missing him, too.

Tribe Order

My brother, Bijan Sharifi just came out with his new album Tribe Order as part of his side project Ulcantegu, now available on iTunes. Half of the the album's proceeds go to charity to help survivors of natural disasters. The album cover was designed by my best friend, and amazing artist, Tesily Diehl and even features a photograph she took of me. So cool to know I am surrounded by a best friend and brother who are so talented and always continue to inspire me. Great work guys! Also the track "Filthy Razcals" will be featured in my upcoming short film, pretty neat way to get a sneak peek.

The Cave Man

The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford was on this afternoon and I gladly watched it while working on my puppets for my stop-motion film. Because I was focused on working on my puppets, I was listening to the film more than watching it and I remembered how much I love the score composed by Nick Cave. I then remembered that I had recently found this picture of him and thought he looked so much like Billy Butcherson in it, so I had to post it.

Rather Lovely Thing

One must love the Dame!

Can't believe it's been a month since I have posted something on the blog, shows how busy I have been. I thought I'd post about someone whose art has been very influential to my own over the past few years, and that would be Dame Darcy. I may have only mentioned Dame Darcy a few times on my blog, so I think it's about time I do a proper post about her.

I first heard about Dame Darcy when a friend of mine read a copy of Jane Eyre illustrated by her. The artwork was so interesting that she decided to look her up and discovered some more of her artwork and music. My friend then introduced me to Dame Darcy's work, and I was inspired. I fell in love with her southern gothic influences and really liked how original she was, even if not all of her art was my cup of tea. Overall, I really enjoy the music, films, and illustrations she has done and thought I'd post a few links and samples.
