In shape, she was the opposite of her sister, tiny and compact, and it probably earned her the name Trouble (given to her by her previous owners) as she very often found her way into small spaces. She also spent all the years that Smudge was alive, taking care of her. They had an odd George and Lenny complex, if you will: Smudge being larger and not all there mentally, and Trouble being sharp, and small. When Smudge had to be put down, Trouble was sad, but soon blossomed into a whole new kitty, relieved for her sister, who had had many health and mental difficulties at the time. The last few years, Trouble was able to bond with us more and leave an imprint on our hearts, as all lovely pets do.

My Favorite Nightmares
Been having so many nightmares lately. It reminds me of when I was a kid, back when the nightmares were due to my indulging in the Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark series by Alvin Schwartz, illustrated by the amazing Stephen Gammell. I love looking at Stephen Gammell's work this time of year anyway, so why not revisit the old nightmares? At least they were more interesting back then...
I usually share the classics, from the Scary Stories series, but here are a few rare illustrations from other books featuring Gammell's work. I found them on Pinterest (here's my #HaunterLife for more goodies) which led me to a great blog called Razorwire Pictures, featuring even more rare illustrations. It also included a few other Halloween-themed/spooky throwback books from childhood - not illustrated by Gammell, but are still part of a great trip down memory lane!
Oh, and then there's these... I want them.

Franken-Kitty
Thankfully Trouble just got her feeding tube taken out today. Talk about gross! Now she just has a bandage she has to wear for a few days. She is back to her normal ways though; running, meowing, begging for food, playing, ripping up the carpet...

The Smudge
Talk about what a strange little creature she was, my Smudge was just like a little monster. She was quite fat, pretty lazy, always made the strangest whiny noises if you dared pick her up (and wouldn't stop until you'd put her down). She always looked paranoid and nervous about anything that may happen, like if someone just entered a room, very simple things freaked her out. She purred so loud the whole couch she would be sitting on would vibrate, and (my all-time favorite) when you'd wake her up from a nap, she would lift her head up with a stream of drool coming down from her mouth and she'd give you this look like if she were human, she'd kill you, then she would pull one of her whiny little growls. The thing my mom and I absolutely loved about her was that the markings in her fur made it look like she wore a jacket that could never fit, perfect for a chubby kitty.
The best part about Smudge, and her sister Trouble, is that no matter how angry they may get, they never bite or scratch us. Still Smudge was a weird little cat, one that most people thought may have been mentally-challenged, which could be very true, even so it just makes me love her more for being so different, quirky, and random. I miss my little monster kitty.
Here she is, her chub consuming her sister Trouble.
